Outdoor Learning is taking the curriculum outside and so much more. It is a one off session that includes hands-on experiences that will help the children consolidate their learning from the indoors. It is about observing nature and how that can be linked to; for example; maths and how it can taught by counting in multiples of five by using chestnut leaves; literacy and how new words can be introduced through the activist chosen; art and how creative we can be using nature’s pallet.
Forest School should be delivered throughout the year, allowing the children to learn and observe about the differences throughout the seasons. It should be child led, by this it is meant, not structured and following the children’s interests. Fires and tools can be included after base line assessments are observed of the children so that they are ready for it. Safety is paramount, as is teaching the children about risk and the benefits that allowing certain activities to take place.
I have access to Squirrel Wood Scout Camp, this allows me to run sessions in their beautiful woodland. There is, however an extra charge for delivery to be carried out here. Any other delivery will be within your setting.
Sessions can be delivered to work with a particular book you are reading;
These session will include activities linked to the books and can include; making habitats, stick people, den building and creating big art.
I am happy to work with you to create a bespoke session to meet your needs.
I have over 30 years worth of experience working with children. I was on my children’s Friends of; in school helping to fundraise for extra equipment. I have worked with lots of different age groups through my career firstly at the local playgroup, then onto the breakfast, after school and holiday schemes, where I qualified as a Playworker, then managed the setting. I progressed to be an assessor and internal verifier for Playwork qualifications. I began teaching at college delivering both Playwork and Childcare qualifications.
I was sent on a course to become a Forest School Practitioner and it involved things we did as children, playing outdoors in all weather, cooking on an open fire and having lots of fun. I delivered these sessions to Childcare students as part of their qualification. We became a leading outdoor learning destination for schools across the South Yorkshire borough. I was then asked to attend a course to become a Forest school trainer.I trained over 100 people to enable the school children of South Yorkshire to experience Forest School.I have now decided to continue to my passion of engaging children with nature by becoming a sole trader and deliver Outdoor Education in schools and nurseries across the borough.
